THE HEBREW ACADEMY
In Israel, there is an institute called The Academy of the Hebrew Language. Among others, the job of this institute is to introduce new words into the Hebrew language.
This means, in many cases, if there is a foreign word being used in Hebrew, the academy will find a Hebrew alternative for it.
This time we’ll discuss the word אָלֶרְגְיָה (alerg’yah) allergy. The academy created a new Hebrew
word – רַגֶשֶׁת (rageshet).
In order to understand how the academy formed this word, let’s look at other words that come from the same root ר-ג-ש.
All the words that contain this root are connected to feelings.
